5,500 More Slot Machines ApprovedSan Manuel Band of Mission Indians got approval from the federal government on a gambling expansion that would aloe for 5,500 more slot machines to be added at their San Bernardino area casino. It currently has 2,000 slots in the area.
The approval comes as four other tribes fight to win California voters' support of their gambling expansion agreements.
In August of last year, the San Manuel tribe signed an agreement with Gov. Schwarzenegger. It already has a labor union and does not cross promote with horse racetracks so it does not have to deal with election challenges that the other four tribes have.
Though the San Manuel tribe hasnít yet decided how many the will install in their San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino than can instantly install 200 slot machines after the federal approval. San Manuel officials have stated they just want to meet the demand of their customers.
The new agreement signed by the tribe says that a portion of its slot-machine revenue will be paid to the state. The agreement is in effect until 2030 and the Department of Finance has estimated the tribe will pay $7.2 billion to the state in total through out the life of this agreement.
