Spotlight 29 recently celebrated their grand re-opening this past Thursday. The celebration was for the re-opening as well as the expansion that was added to the casino. The casino added more slot games as well as gaming tables and overall the project cost $52 million.

Revenues are down at many of the California casinos but despite that fact Spotlight 29 decided to spend the money to produce the project was over $50 million dollars. The showroom was renovated as well as a restaurant was added, along with the new slot machines and gaming tables.

Darrell Mike the Tribal Chairman of the Twenty Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians commented that the plans for the addition were started before the economy went into a downward spiral. Mike also stated that they had been feeling the pinch of the economy but they are hoping the expansion will attract more gamers to the casino.

"There was talk about pausing (the project), put it on the back burner but we decided to finish it," Mike said. "We're not one for quitting and stopping halfway through. Life is a gamble. We take it and hopefully it will project us forward."
