The Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course recently discovered a big mistake. Fifty five thousand customers were mailed $500 in free slot machine playing credits by accident. The casino is now trying to straighten out the mess while still keeping customers happy and not losing too much money.

On Monday the Hollywood Casino decided to honor a portion of the credit after talking to all of the many thousands of customers during the weekend. A local television station reported the mistake which caused many angry customers to begin to try and take advantage of the offer which took effect on Monday.

The offered mailed to patrons was for $100 per week in slot gaming from December 1st to January 4th with two free visits to the casino’s buffet. The casino now is only offering the players $100 in credits and two buffet passes only if they are redeemed by Christmas.

Eric Schippers a spokesman for Penn National stated the mistake happened with a direct mailing business that has not been identified. Only the most active customers, around 1,000, were supposed to get the large offer.

"What we don't know is how it occurred, why it occurred, and we don't want to speculate until we hear back from them exactly what happened," he said. "Rather than say, 'Sorry, it was an error,' we've said, 'Sorry, let's try to come up with what we think is a reasonable redemption plan.'"
