Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has previously been opposed to unlimited expansion of gambling on Indian lands. Schwarzenegger has granted several tribes allowance to install tens of thousands of new slot machines.

Earlier in the week, the Schwarzenegger administration announced deals for pushing three other tribes to increase the amount of slots they operate from 2,000 to 7,500 each. Compare this to the largest casinos of Las Vegas which only have 3,000 slot machines.

The Indian tribes will in return pay an increased amount of their casino revenue to the state's general fund in accordance with the agreement. The life of the contracts is expected to last 30 years and could generate tens of billions of Dollars to the state's coffers.
